    Rio Vistas Micro Grant Activation: LA Walks

     

    Los Angeles Walks will include this Rio Vistas Micro Grant Activation as part of its current walk series. They will design and build a temporary ramp or will improve the surface connecting the sidewalk to the river path at Newell or another street end. At the event, they will hold a short discussion in Elysian Valley, followed by a walk north along the river, to Rattlesnake park and back, noting issues of accessibility along the way. They will work with Wheels to Water, the Department of Disability, Metro Accessibility Advisory Committee, and CALIF to recruit participants with physical disabilities to join in the event.

    Rio Vistas Micro Grant Activation featuring Las Fotos

    Students and their mentors would facilitate water/river-inspired participatory art workshops that incorporate photography, collaging, water colors, and paint. These art pieces would be visual representations of house residents from the neighborhood engage with the LA River.

    Rio Vistas Micro Grant Activation: SKNSMK + BENDER

     

    SKNSMK will invite community members to join in on a fun relay run that highlights the LA River and the different recreational activities that take place on it. Participants can register as a team, as an individual, for competition, and for fun. BENDER will produce a 75-minute yoga class led by an experienced and engaging local teacher, while a DJ spins fresh and inspiring sounds. After class, guests will enjoy music, food and drinks served by vendors (food trucks and/or local restaurants). A selection of local artists and show their work and provide a participatory mini-workshop (participation optional).
