Cynthia Kurtz – Chief Operating Officer
The histories of the cities along the LA River are intricately tied to the river. Cynthia is excited to be part of the renaissance each city is experiencing as it discovers the possibilities of opening the river to residents and visitors.
Working as the COO for River LA brings together Cynthia’s experience in planning, public works and organizational management. Prior to holding this position, she was President and CEO of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership working to develop good wage jobs in the region.
Cynthia served as the City Manager of the City of Pasadena from March 1998 to January 2008. She began with the city of Pasadena as the capital projects administrator and later became the director of Public Works and Transportation.
Prior to moving to California, Cynthia worked for the city of Portland, Oregon holding a variety of positions on the Office of Transportation and the Bureau of Economic Development.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development and Housing from the Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Arts degree in Transportation and Urban Planning from the University of Iowa.
Cynthia serves on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and is Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign for Villa Esperanza Services.
She lives in Pasadena with her husband Jim McDermott
