The LA River featured in Sony’s Global 9 month Social Documentary

October marks the beginning of Sony’s #FutureofCities campaign highlighting the LA River revitalization and the impact it has on our communities.

Sony Global Imaging Ambassadors in collaboration with Panos Pictures and the World Photography Organization (WPO) has launched #FutureofCities. Rooted in visual storytelling, this project documents large scale migration to urban environments and the changes that occur as a result. The Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation’s vision for the revitalization of the communities along the LA River will be featured alongside projects in Beijing and London respectively.

Panos Photographers have begun examining changing communities through topics such as urban farming, eco housing, technological innovations, elastic environments, children at play, green spaces, economic divides and much more.

Photographer Carolyn Drake will  follow the LA River between Griffith Park and Downtown Los Angeles producing two separate photo essays. The first will be a series of landscape documentary images shot along the 51-mile channel. The second will be a series of still life photographs of objects collected along the way. These objects will be presented as a time capsule for the future, reminding citizens of how things were (now).

You can help the #FutureofCities campaign as well. How do you use the LA River? How do you want to use it in the future? How do you envision the revitalization of the LA River?  Use your imagination!
