We were a partner organization in the Northeast Los Angeles Riverfront Collaborative (NELARC), an innovative, interdisciplinary partnership that was formed to capture the energy of the Los Angeles River as a catalyst for implementing revitalization strategies and help NELA communities to thrive.
The NELARC process built upon the growing momentum of efforts to transform the River, and aimed to create a Riverfront District as a focal point of community revitalization, recreational activities, environmental stewardship, sustainable civic engagement, and economic growth for the entire city.
The NELA Riverfront District Vision Plan was born out of extensive community engagement activities and celebrates the NELA riverfront neighborhoods of Atwater Village, Cypress Park, Elysian Valley, Glassell Park, and Lincoln Heights. The Vision Plan documents ideas we heard from the community to improve the NELA Riverfront area and recommendations that we feel can effectively deliver these improvements to the L.A. River and its surrounding Northeast Los Angeles riverfront neighborhoods.
It was adopted by the LA City Council in 2014 and is a blueprint for placemaking projects along the 11 mile stretch of of the LA River in Northeast LA.
