As a finalist, River LA, represented by Omar Brownson and Eli A. Kaufman, will present its design to the PXD jurors and SXSW Eco audience in a fast-paced pitch competition, 4 minute pitch followed by a 4 minute Q&Q, at SXSW Eco 2016 taking place Monday, October 10 at 10:15AM – 11:15AM at the Austin Convention Center.

“Being chosen as a finalist in the SXSW Eco Place by Design competition provides a great forum for us to showcase the LA River as an intersection for innovative design and policy,” said River LA’s Executive Director Omar Brownson. “At River LA, we pride ourselves on our collaborative partnerships, and see SXSW Eco as a unique interactive opportunity for us to share our story and learn from everyone involved.”

SXSW Eco’s PXD competition celebrates innovative design work that transforms our everyday surroundings and creates positive social and environmental impact. Place by Design highlights all types of projects that rethink how we use and interact with place, including public art, urban interventions, digital technologies and architecture. The competition is open to artists, architects, designers and urbanists at all levels of experience.

“We’re excited to share our learning and vision around an LA River that provides next generation infrastructure, supports a strong ecology and creates vibrant public spaces, said Director of Communications, Eli Kaufman. “The fast-pitch format is a fantastic way for us to find out how our message is resonating so we can better connect with the diverse communities along the LA River and engage the public in our efforts to create a river worthy of our region.”

In addition to Place by Design's fast-paced pitch competition, the accompanying program features collaborative workshops, coaching sessions and a variety of opportunities designed to further the impact of place-based design and foster connections between attendees.
