"How we spend time together defines how we share space"

Thanks to our incredibly generous sponsor Boeing we were able to join with our Community Partner LA River Expeditions, students from Outward Bound Adventures and the Wilderness Youth Project, and the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition for our Paddle & Picnic inspired “A Seat at the Table” event along the river at the Sepulveda Basin. During our visit, we heard stories about current views and perceptions of the river and shared stories about what the transformation of the river could mean for Los Angeles County residents in the future.
“People need to process the experiences they have and one of the best ways in our culture to process things is to talk about it. Eating, talking, thinking, sharing, it brings the LA River into these peoples souls and bones and we really need that to have more stewards going forward,”
Anthea Raymond, Paddle & Picnic “A Seat at the Table” Participant
It was so powerful and truly magical to see people from various walks of life with all different connections to the Los Angeles River come together and speak candidly about their hopes and dreams for the future. We were overjoyed to see many people come away from our most recent “A Seat At The Table” event with for many of our participants was a new-found appreciation for the incredible resource the river is. And as always we enjoyed hearing stories from our longtime river advocates and allies who were proud to share their connection to the river and the value it provides to our cities, neighborhoods and communities.
At the end of the day we asked all of the participants to write a love note to the Los Angeles River, here is what one of our friends shared:
“Every time I drive through LA I see you empty and concrete with a little bit of water. I would like to see (the river) full of water, vegetation, and aquatic life. I would like to see an ecosystem where people can go and relax and enjoy,”
Edwin Chavez, Paddle & Picnic “A Seat at the Table” Participant
A BIG thank you again to our incredibly generous sponsor Boeing who was able to make our Paddle & Picnic at reality!
